eReaders as gifts

One of the most requested and antiticipated holiday gifts this year is eReaders (and tablets and smart phones; which can double as eReaders).

As a result, we've been hard at work developing two new eReading Services: the 3M Cloud Library and Zinio Digital Magazines.

The 3M Cloud Library is a flexible, easy-to-use e-book lending system for full color ebook (all ebooks, no audiobooks).

The 3M Cloud Library allows you to browse on the web, check out and read the eBook titles using the latest mobile technology via 3G/4G networks or WiFi—Android phones, iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches, any wifi enabled PC or Mac—and coming soon, Nook Color and Nook Tablet.  Patrons can download to a PC and upload to an older devices.

The 3M Cloud site allows you to browse categories, which includes their full catalog of available titles; which you can add to your wish list. When the library purchases new content, we can see the titles that have been added to the wishlist for purchase consideration. This is great, because it allows you to help us build the collection. Since this is a new collection, many titles will not be immediatly available but we are actively building the collection in anticipation of holiday-related demand.

In addition, Marin County Free Library MCFL is piloting two Discovery Station kiosks where you can browse the collection on a big touch screen, scan your library card, and wirelessly receive your checked out eBook.  These will be at the Point Reyes Library and the South Novato Library.  Stop in and visit!

Zinio Digital Magazines for Libraries is the world's largest digital newsstand and our current collection offers over 500 different magazines. You can search and select publications from our digital magazine stand. The entire magazine is replicated digitally and allows you to move seamlessly within each publication page between text, interactive graphics, animated illustrations, videos and much more. With its unique digital platform, multi-access viewing and diverse content offering, Zinio for Libraries creates better ways for you to discover published content, get more of it and do more with it.
