Team sports are a great way to be involved in your school and stay in shape but soccer, fall baseball, volleyball, water polo, and football are demanding on the body and injuries can happen. Prevention is key in making for a healthy season.

How can injuries be prevented? Having equipment that fits correctly, playing within the rules, proper stretching and warming up, and stopping when getting hurt are all steps you can take. What are the most common sport injuries for teens? Sprains and strains, knee injuries, shin splints, swollen muscles, Achilles tendon injuries, fractures, and dislocations. Have you ever heard of RICE? That stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. This can significantly reduce, swelling, pain, and speed up the healing. Make sure you see your doctor if your injury is causing severe pain, numbness, swelling, or if the joint feels unstable and it is hard to bear weight. Here are two sites that can give you a little more information on what to do if you become injured. Have fun out there and play smart!
