On May 27, 1937, after four years of construction, the completion of the Golden  Gate Bridge was celebrated.  200,000 people walked or roller-skated across the span linking San Francisco and Marin. (On its 50th anniversary in 1987, between 750,000 and 1,000,000 pedestrians crossed—or attempted to cross-- the bridge).

Learn more about the building of our iconic and beautiful bridge and the history of San Francisco at an illustrated talk by a Fine Arts Museum docent, “Happy75th Birthday Golden Gate Bridge,” at the Corte Madera Library on Wednesday, May 16, at 7 p.m.

Here are a few books and DVDs about the project:

Golden Gate: the life and times of America’s greatest bridge, by Kevin Starr.

Golden Gate Bridge: history and design of an icon, by Donald MacDonald and Ira Nadel.
