It's an occupational hazard for librarians - stumbling across a compelling read.  The other night, just before going to sleep, I decided to take a quick look at The water giver : the story of a mother, a son and their second chance, I knew that Joan Ryan was a local journalist and author. so I thought this book might be worth a look. The next thing I knew, it was 3:00 am and, even realizing I would face the day bleary-eyed, there were no regrets. It was worth it to join Joan, her husbanc Barry, and their amazing son Ryan on this life-changing journey.
