Enki Electronic Books

Have you discovered Enki eBooks yet?  Discover a new author you’ve never heard of before!  Search through over 18,000 fiction and non-fiction titles for children, teens, and adults!

Available to Marin County Free Library cardholders, Enki Library is designed to host and lend library-managed eBooks from independent and self-published authors, and features unique local digitized content that is shared across libraries throughout California.

Started by librarians and launched in May 2013 by the Califa Library Group and Contra Costa County Library, the open-source service seeks to provide better exposure to books “off the beaten path” without the prohibitive costs often imposed by third-party vendors and big publishers for eBook services.  Enki allows libraries to directly purchase titles from indie publishers such as Workman, National Highlights, Akashic, Dzanc, InfoBase, Permanent Press, Crossroad, Xist and Smashwords.  Because Enki is an open-source product, libraries have better control of the content and the functionality they can deliver to patrons, ensuring access to more information with fewer limitations.

With a streamlined interface, easy navigation and strong keyword search options, it is easy to see what’s available for download.  Students can find content for science, biography, and country reports.  Enki is also searchable by publisher name.  Like other e-book services, there are no late fees!  To use Enki, all you need is a library card and the appropriate reading app (BlueFire reader or Adobe Digital Editions) – see our FAQ on how to get started!
