Anne T. Kent California Room Librarian Laurie Thompson will talk about the Legacy of the Kent Family at the Corte Madera Library on Thursday, May 3rd from 7 to 8 P.M.
Albert and Adaline Kent and their son William first came to Marin in 1871. The following year Albert purchased 13 acres in the future Kent Woodlands. In 1875 he bought 395 adjacent acres, and he continued buying property in the county till his death in 1901. William picked up where his father left off, purchasing property on Mt. Tamalpais and in Redwood Canyon, the future Muir Woods. Thanks to the latter purchase the redwoods were saved from logging and preserved for public enjoyment. Over the years the Kents made many contributions to Marin County, and it is this legacy that Laurie will discuss.
