Friday Hours Added to Fairfax Library Schedule

Passage of Measure A assures more access by the public

San Rafael, CA – Following the recent passage of parcel tax renewal, the Fairfax Branch Library will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Fridays starting June 13.

“We’re very excited about being able to expand our hours,” said Margaret Miles, Fairfax branch manager. “Our library patrons love the services we provide, and we received very positive and high approval ratings in a recent in-house survey. The most common request we saw was for more open hours.”

Measure A, the nine-year renewal of the Marin County Free Library’s $49 parcel tax, passed with voter support of 78 percent during the June 3 primary election. In Fairfax, support was closer to 85 percent, higher than it was in 2010 when Measure A was introduced.

The funding will maintain library hours, provide children, teen, senior and disabled programs including public education support, maintain books and digital collections, enhance library facilities and accessibility for people with physical challenge, and ensure that local funding can't be taken by the state government. The parcel tax has an annual Consumer Price Index adjustment and includes independent citizen oversight and senior citizen exemptions.

The library will have an open house June 27 to thank the community for its support. Residents can meet the staff, enjoy cookies and lemonade, and view the improvements made to the lobby, the magazine area and the children’s area.

“We’re very grateful that Marin residents appreciate their libraries and are willing to support them,” Miles said.
