Are you looking for a study guide for an upcoming exam? Before you spend a lot of money at a book store, check out the resources of your local library.
First, go to the Marin County Free Library catalog. In the search box of the Encore Catalog, or as a keyword search in the Classic Catalog, type in the name of the Examination you’ll be taking: SAT, SAT math, AP biology, GRE, NCLEX-RN, CPA, CSET and so forth. If you type in just the keywords “study guide” or “study guides” you’ll get an idea of how many guides the library has, but the results page will be a little overwhelming. If you find a title you want, check it out, or place a hold on it if it’s unavailable.
The library also has eBook study guides. From the library homepage, click on Research & Learning in the blue bar near the top of the page. Under Resources by Subject, click on the eBooks link.
The largest collection of study guides is in the new Enki Library. Choose the Study Guides tab to see what’s available. If you find a title you’d like to read, you’ll be required to log in to the database with your library barcode and PIN number. You can open the book on your computer, through Adobe Digital Editions (you will need to authorize your computer with your Adobe ID) or you can read it on a device by downloading the BlueFire Reader App. Enki has instructions on how to do this.
The next largest collection of study guides is in Axis 360 eBooks. In the search box of the Magic Wall type in “study aids” to see what they have. If you log in with your barcode and PIN number you can check out books as ePubs, using Adobe Digital Editions, or through the Blio app. You can download both of these by going to the App Zone.
The 3M Cloud Library also has a few study guides. In the Categories tab at the bottom of the page select Study Aids. Again, you will need to log in with your library barcode and PIN number, and you’ll also need to download a Reader App.
EBSCO eBooks has some older study guides under the category Study Aids & Language Learning. You can open and read them in your browser.
Finally, for patrons interested in learning about computers and technology, Safari Tech Books Online has lots of titles you can open and read on your computer. On the home page type “study guide” into the search box. You’ll find thousands of study guides on various topics.
