Meeting Rooms

Branches with meeting rooms that can be reserved by community organizations are Fairfax, and Stinson Beach.

General Guidelines

1. Meeting rooms are not available during heavy-use time.
2. Meetings must be open to the public.
3. Meeting rooms cannot be used for profit-making purposes.  No fees for admittance, services or products may be charged.
4. Meetings must take place during library open hours when library staff is present.
5. Meetings cannot exceed four hours.
6. Meeting room users must sign a Meeting Room Policy and Agreement form and pay a $25 nonrefundable reservation fee prior to reserving a room.
7. Meeting room users are responsible for setup prior to and clean up after a meeting.
8. Smoking and the use of alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited.
9. With the branch manager’s prior approval, food and nonalcoholic beverages may be permitted. No food/beverages will be allowed outside the meeting room. No kitchen access is available.
10. Meeting room privileges will be revoked if users violate any of these conditions.

To Reserve a Meeting Room

1. Contact the branch library where the meeting will take place.
2. Meeting rooms may be reserved no more than two calendar months in advance of a meeting.
3. Meeting room users must sign an Agreement form and pay a reservation fee prior to reserving a room. This form will remain in effect for up to 6 additional meetings during the calendar year.
4. There is a $25 per use fee due at the time a reservation is made.
   1. This fee is nonrefundable unless a library emergency preempts room use in which case the fee will be refunded or may be applied to a future meeting within the calendar year.
   2. In the case of a meeting cancelled by the user, the fee may be applied to a meeting rescheduled within 30 days of cancellation.
5. Exceptions to meeting room policies may be allowed by the Branch Manager for library-related or local government-related groups.

Tutor Policy

Marin County Free Library branches do not sponsor independent tutors but allow tutoring on the premises in accordance with the following guidelines.

1. Tutoring must be confined to library study areas where quiet discussions are allowed. Tutors should inquire at each branch about the location of an appropriate study area.
2. Study areas may not be available for tutoring at some times due to Library programs or activities.
3. Tutoring sessions must be kept as quiet as possible. The Library's policy regarding disruptive behavior applies to tutoring.
4. Group tutoring is discouraged and should be confined to no more than 3 students at one table.
5. Tutors are responsible for the behavior of students during a tutoring session.
6. The Library recommends that a student’s parent is present in the library during a tutoring session. The Library assumes no responsibility for children left with a tutor or unattended in the building.
7. Library staff will assist a tutor and student just as they would assist any library patron.
8. Library telephones may not be used to make or cancel tutoring appointments.
9. Tutors and students must bring their own supplies.

Test Proctoring

Open Book Exams

The Civic Center Library is the only Marin County Free Library branch that proctors exams.  The library only proctors open book exams. You must set up an appointment in advance by calling the Reference Desk at 473-6058. The fee for proctoring an exam is $25. 

On the day of the test you must bring:

• a photo id
• $25 in cash or check made out to Marin County Free Library
• any required test-taking materials

Closed Book Exams

Residents of Sausalito, Belvedere or Tiburon should contact their local library for closed book exams. Otherwise try contacting Sylvan Learning Center or Tutor Max.
