Fairfax Library is excited to host Bright Moments: A Father/Daughter Art Exhibit through September 30. Bright Moments features oil paintings by Anthony Toney and etchings by Anita Toney.
Anthony was a well known artist in the New York area and spent his last years in Fairfax. Born in 1913 to Syrian immigrants in Gloversville, N.Y., Mr. Toney earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Syracuse University in 1934. Over the next decade he studied in Paris, and painted murals under the auspices of the Works Progress Administration. He was an exceptional and prolific painter with an international reputation. He exhibited regularly at the ACA Gallery in New York and his works are in numerous public collections.
Anita Toney earned a BFA at Syracuse University in 1970, and a MA in 1977 at San Francisco State University. The artist lives and works in Fairfax, CA and has taught printmaking at City College of San Francisco since 1979. She currently teaches classes at the Fort Mason Campus as part of their art program. Anita’s multiple plate color etchings are known for their richness of color and attention to detail. Her work surveys scenes from her life in Marin and her travels abroad.
A free reception will be held Wednesday, September 18 from 6 to 8pm.
