Creativity can be sparked in the mind, though imagination soars with hands-on play, making and creating. Making is a process of discovery, stimulating motor skills and problem-solving in addition to creativity. Materials can be simple items, offering accessibility to anyone, anywhere. This page is full of project ideas to help you get started making with kids & teens!
A hub of inspiration for youth is Marin Makerspace in the Hamilton neighborhood of Novato. As a partnership between Novato Unified School District, the Marin County Free Library, and nonprofit New Media Learning, Marin Makerspace is a place for learning that encourages tinkering, play, and open-ended exploration. Visit Instagram and Facebook for idea generation during shelter-in-place, as the location is currently a pop-up childcare center for our medical community heroes!
A couple more artistry sites are the the Bay Area Children’s Theatre Creativity Corner, an online Playborhood with challenges and activity sheets, and the Chicago Children’s Museum Recipes for Play at Home that offer fun projects for your family to enjoy together.
