One way that parents can encourage their child’s reading is to model reading behaviors at home, as children are primed to model their parents’ behavior. The day to day challenges of managing family can sometimes make it difficult for parents to develop a habit of reading, so creating a parenting shelf in the children’s area hopes to entice parents to visit the library and pick up books that can simultaneously encourage parenting skills while modeling reading to children.
We hope that our new Parent Shelf at the Marin City Library can give parents an opportunity to browse for new ideas and new ways to help parents interact with their children and help them learn, play, and express themselves. We are grateful to Lewis Jordan and Cynthia Green from Marin Housing authority for supporting and coordinating the purchase of these wonderful books.
Most of our branches have Parents Shelves chock full of parenting resources. For more information call your local branch!
