While everyone’s sheltering at home, our staff have been busy bees making storytime videos for you! We hope that the sight of these familiar faces, and the sound of these familiar voices, will bring some comfort and cheer.

Turtle Time! (Source)
Let’s pretend we’re turtles. Take your time to get into your turtle self and slowly take a look around with your new turtle eyes.
- What do you see?
- What do you hear?
- When you see others from a distance watch to see if they are being nice to each other or not. Do they share? Do they smile? How do you smile with a mask on? (You can also use binoculars, special glasses or play “I spy with my little eye”)
*This game is intended to help kids practice picking up on social cues and to start to understand the perspectives of others by observing what’s going on around them.
Usually this game is played when out in the world observing others at a park or grocery store, but since we are social distancing, you can do this observing other family members in the house or even when you are reading books or watching media together you can help ask questions about what characters in the stories are doing and how they must be feeling.
The Town of You!
A plate to trace a circle
pencils/ paints/ crayons
If you were to make your own town or world what would it look like? Using a plate or a bowl or anything round trace a circle onto a nice big piece of paper. Then with your imagination draw or collage w scraps of paper your most colorful version of what kind of world you would live in. It could be as simple as colorful scraps of paper, maybe it would show all the food that you would eat, maybe some animals? What will you come up with? Will there be caves? Will there be cakes? Will there be friends?
Colors Guessing Game (Source)
You can play “I spy” with colors either in the room or colors that you are wearing!
“Red, red is the color I see. If you are wearing red then show it to me. Stand up, turn around. Show me your red then sit back down.”
Little Turtle (Source)
Little turtle in your shell,
Slowly you do go.
(Cover right hand with left hand.)
Slowly creeping, slowly crawling,
Slow is nice, you know!
(Creep hands along slowly.)
Lyrics by Van Waring
I am a turtle in the dark I hide
When I stick out my head and what’s outside?
Plants and creatures can be found!
I am a turtle moving slow
When I stick out my head I’ll say hello
Friends and faces can be found!
Diez colores tengo
Azul y morado
Diez colors tengo!
