Sound Advice: Disability Pride Month at MCFL, July 1–31 2025

On view at all Marin County Free Library branches

San Rafael, CA – This July, Marin County Free Library is proud to celebrate Disability Pride Month with a system-wide exhibit and collection of programs, displays, and booklists that center disability experiences, voices, and visibility. At the heart of this year’s celebration is Sound Advice, a compelling photography and story exhibit by artist Nancy Rubin, on view at all 10 MCFL branches throughout the month.

About the Exhibit

Sound Advice shares the stories of 15 individuals—ranging in age from 6 to 95—living with hearing loss. Through personal interviews and photographic portraits, Rubin captures the everyday challenges and triumphs of navigating a world where communication is often taken for granted.

These stories reflect deeply human themes: resilience, frustration, and the desire to be understood.

Each MCFL branch features exhibit panels and staff-curated booklists that extend the conversation beyond the walls of the gallery.
