Bibliocoaster

The BiblioCoaster is Marin County Free Library’s smaller, flexible outreach vehicle designed to reach rural parts of West Marin beyond that of MCFL’s four West Marin libraries. Its size allows it to navigate narrow roads and tight terrain, including the former Bookmobile route to Dillon Beach. It will bring library resources, technology, programs, and personalized support directly to communities and gathering places.

Phase I is the BiblioCoaster’s initial period of limited service. During this phase, MCFL will establish operations, build staff and service capacity, and learn directly from residents and community partners. Their feedback will help shape future locations, schedules, programs, and services.

Initial services may include books and other library materials, library card registration and account assistance, help accessing digital resources, technology support, educational activities, and connections to library and community resources. Available services may vary by visit as the BiblioCoaster builds toward a fuller service model.

Phase I will not include delivery of holds or other book-delivery services. These services may be considered in later phases based on community input gathered during the initial phase.

The BiblioCoaster will serve rural communities and gathering places throughout West Marin. Initial service will include Dillon Beach and may expand to locations such as Bolinas, Nicasio, Tomales, the San Geronimo Valley, senior centers, parks, schools, community events, and other locations identified through community input and partnerships.

Laptops, computers, and Wi-Fi hotspots are part of the BiblioCoaster’s planned technology services. Availability may be limited during Phase I and may vary by location or event. Current availability will be shared with each scheduled visit.

Everyone is welcome to visit the BiblioCoaster. The service is designed for people of all ages, with a special focus on rural West Marin communities where distance, geography, or transportation can make it difficult to reach a library.

A library card is not required to visit the BiblioCoaster, participate in many activities, ask questions, or receive assistance. A card may be required to borrow materials, laptops, hotspots, or access certain digital resources. Staff can help eligible visitors sign up for a free library card.

Services and locations will be added as MCFL builds operational capacity and learns from the communities the BiblioCoaster serves. Community needs, partnerships, staffing, vehicle capacity, and available resources will help guide future expansion.

Schools, community organizations, service providers, event organizers, neighborhood groups, and public agencies are invited to connect with MCFL. Organizations can use the request or contact form on the BiblioCoaster webpage to propose a visit, event, program, or partnership opportunity.
