New Year, New Hobby

Just because it’s February doesn’t mean you can’t start something new, and what better way to start the new year than with a new hobby? The library is here to help!

The Corte Madera Library is now offering Crafting Tool Kits for five different crafts: hand sewing, quilting, embroidery, crochet and

knitting, hot gluing, and jewelry making. These kits come with the essential tools for each craft such as fabric scissors, needles, wire cutter, and more.

They don’t come with anything that needs replenishing (such as thread, yarn, glue sticks, etc.) so make sure you acquire the materials needed before starting your craft.

If you’re a total novice to crafting, have no fear! The library has a great selection of books that can help you learn how to use any of our kits.

Find a selection of books for each craft below:

Please give the Corte Madera Library a call at 415-924-3515 if you’d like to learn more about our kits!

The fun doesn’t stop at the Corte Madera Library, though:

  • Next to the South Novato Library is The Shop, a place meant for all members of the community to hone a variety of analog skills: woodworking, painting, fiber arts, and even bicycle maintenance. Check out their page to learn all about the tools available, their open hours, and the levels required to use certain heavy equipment
  • Near the Marin City Library is The Lab, a makerspace that has 3D printers, laser cutters, virtual reality headsets, and more. Even though robotics, graphic design, and computer coding are digital activities, they still require creativity and imagination, which is what crafting is all about. You can call the Marin City Library for more information at (415) 332-6158
  • Already have the supplies and looking for a crafting community?
    • Join the Fabric and Fiber Makers Club at the Fairfax Library. They meet in the Community Room from 6pm to 7:45pm on the 2nd Monday of each month
    • Attend Makers Monday at the Point Reyes Library from 3:30-5:30pm. All ages welcome
    • Meet with the Mending Circle at the Inverness Library on the first Monday of every month from 3:30pm-5:30pm

No matter what kind of crafter you are, or what level you’re at, Marin County Free Libraries have what you need.
