Corte Madera Library Improvements

Project Dates: June 2024 - Early 2025

About the Project

The Corte Madera Library will receive a variety of upgrades over the next few months. The work will include improved paths of travel around the library grounds, electric vehicle chargers, a new heating and cooling system, and new bathrooms.

The project is estimated to cost $2.3 million and will be funded through the Corte Madera Library Accessibility Fund, Marin County Free Library Measure A funds, and the Climate Action Plan Fund.

To accommodate a new fully accessible pathway from the parking lot to the library entrance, the reading garden will be replaced by new landscaping and outdoor seating. New seating areas will be created at multiple locations outside the library, including a new wooden deck with an overlook and benches. While we will miss our reading garden, we value this opportunity to improve access to the library for patrons with disabilities and be a welcoming place for all.

Impacts to Public

The branch will be closed to the public from August to September 22 to accommodate the most intensive phase of interior work. Starting September 23, the library will reopen with temporarily modified hours, so that construction work can continue in the morning hours: Monday - Thursday 12-8, closed Friday, Saturday 10-5, Sunday 12-5. Our technology services, including access to public computers and Wi-Fi, may also be limited.

Please continue to check for current hours and closures on the Corte Madera Library page. The Library may need to adjust the branch’s hours of operation as needed through to the completion of the project. The closest alternative locations are Larkspur Library and Marin City Library.

The south parking lot will be used as the staging area for the contractor and will therefore be closed to the public for the duration of the project. The east parking lot will be available for public use, with only the occasional need for partial restrictions to accommodate specific construction activities.

We are doing our best to meet the needs of patrons during the construction project and apologize for the inconvenience.
