Marin Libraries Reach Major Online Milestone

MARINet’s Libby hits 1 million downloads

Marin County, CA – In a testament to Marin County’s vibrant community of avid readers, the Marin County Free Library (MCFL) and the consortium of local public and academic libraries just reached a major milestone: 1 million digital checkouts through its shared digital resource, the app called Libby.

The library consortium, MARINet, was established to better connect library resources for all community members in Marin. Over its 35-year history, MARINet has expanded to provide digital resources, such as OverDrive's Libby app, online access to The New York Times, and internet connectivity for public libraries.

“The MARINet consortium is a tremendous asset for every resident of Marin,” said Lana Adlawan, MCFL Director. “With easy-to-use digital content and thousands of books available for checkout in every neighborhood, Marin’s libraries truly strive to meet people where they are. We celebrate this milestone as a demonstration and commitment to a valued community resource that welcomes all.”

With over 100,000 titles, the Libby app offers a wide variety of materials, including eBooks, audiobooks, comics, manga, and magazines. The collection includes materials for all ages and an expanding selection of titles in Spanish. Hundreds of always-available magazines, such as The New Yorker, provide patrons with access to their favorite magazines without waiting.

Accessibility is a key priority for MARINet. The Libby app offers features that make digital reading inclusive and enjoyable, such as adjustable font sizes, dyslexia-friendly fonts, and screen reader compatibility, allowing patrons to customize their experience to suit their needs. Libby audiobooks are available in 48 playback speeds, from 0.6x to 3.0x, offering flexibility for patrons whether they prefer a leisurely pace or are really on the move.

"Breaking 1 million circulations is an exciting achievement that highlights the growing impact of the libraries’ digital collections," said Jessica Trenary, MARINet Systems Administrator. "MARINet is proud to help provide access to learning and entertainment for everyone in our community."

With a collection that grows every day, the library invites everyone to download the Libby app on mobile devices or view from a desktop computer. Accessing the collection is simple and free with a library cardExplore the catalog and start downloading today.
