The refresh project for all ten branches of the Marin County Free Library will revamp our interior spaces for library patrons and staff, with improvements ranging from new furniture, paint, and accessible technology. This project is a direct outcome of the voter-approved 2022 Measure B funding for library services, operations, and facility improvements.
This project makes recommended improvements to better serve the local communities of each library branch consistent with the MCFL Anti-Racism & Equity Strategic Plan.

Bolinas Library
Bolinas Library Upgrades:
- New Service Desk: A new service desk to replace the existing desk and cabinetry, opening up the space to create a more efficient and welcoming service area.
- Improved Shelving Layout: Relocated shelving to make the space more organized and accessible to enhance the browsing experience.
- Updated Furniture: New tables, chairs, and lounge areas to provide more comfortable spaces for reading, studying, and relaxing.
- Interior Paint: A fresh coat of paint to brighten up the library and create a more inviting atmosphere for all.
- New Carpet: Fresh new carpet throughout the library to brighten the space.
Civic Center Library
Civic Center Library Upgrades:
- Children’s Area Shelving: New shelving and a more flexible layout to create a better space for reading, learning and play.
- Updated Furniture: Comfortable, modern chairs, tables, and lounge spaces to provide inviting spots for reading and relaxing.
- Children’s Area Carpet: Vibrant, kid-friendly carpet to make the space even more inviting to families.
- Interior Paint: A new coat of paint in key areas to give the interior a fresh, updated look.
- Teen Area Furniture: Expanded teen area with new comfortable furniture to create a welcoming space for teens to gather.
Corte Madera Library
Corte Madera Library Upgrades:
- New Shelving: Improved shelving to enhance the layout, improve the browsing experience, and allow for additional program spaces.
- Updated Service Desk: New service desk to modernize the entrance and improve staff efficiency.
- Comfortable Seating: New tables, chairs, and lounge areas to create a welcoming place to relax, study, or read.
- New Carpet: Fresh new carpet to rejuvenate the space.
- Teen Area Renovation: Addition of flexible furniture to create an inviting teen space.
- Carrel Removal: Removal of old study carrels to make the library’s interior more open and accessible.
Fairfax Library
Fairfax Library Upgrades:
- Nature-Themed Children’s Area: A nature-inspired theme with new shelving and engaging, interactive elements.
- New Seating & Workstations: New tables, chairs, and lounge areas to provide quiet reading and study spaces for all age groups.
- Outdoor Seating: New outdoor seating options, including tables and lounges, to create a relaxing outdoor space.
- New Carpet: Fresh new carpet to rejuvenate the space and create a more welcoming atmosphere.
Inverness Library
Inverness Library Upgrades:
- Wood Slat Wall Enhancements: New wood slat accents to improve the shelving areas and allow for better display of library materials.
- Updated Furniture: Reupholstered children’s benches to make seating more visually appealing and functional.
- Outdoor Upgrades: New outdoor tables, chairs and planters to create a welcoming and relaxing space for reading or enjoying nature.
- Interior Paint: A new coat of paint in select areas to give the interior a fresh, updated look.
- New Window Shades: New mesh roller shades for improved appearance and functionality.
Marin City Library
Marin City Library Upgrades:
- Updated Service Desk: A sleek new desk to provide a professional, efficient workspace for staff, while offering a warm welcome to patrons.
- Reorganized Shelving: New shelving throughout the library to create more inviting, accessible browsing spaces.
- Modern Furniture: New tables, chairs, and workstations to provide comfortable, stylish spots for studying, reading, and relaxing, for all age groups.
- Fresh Paint: A new coat of paint to create a more vibrant, welcoming space.
- Expanded Teen Area: A space for teens to call their own, with access to technology and comfortable seating.
- Gallery Wall: A new gallery wall in the teen and adult areas to showcase local artwork and inspire creativity.

Novato Library
Novato Library Upgrades:
- New Carpet: Vibrant new carpet in the children’s area and other areas to brighten up the space and create a welcoming atmosphere.
- Updated Furniture: Comfortable, modern furniture to provide inviting spots for reading and relaxing.
- Interior Paint: A new coat of paint in key areas to give the interior a fresh, updated look.
- Teen Area Revamp: A new expanded teen area with modern furniture and teen-only computers to give teens a better space for reading, studying and hanging out with friends.
- Children’s Area: Additional seating for parents and caregivers to enjoy the space together.
- Adult Computer Area: Expanded and improved computer workspaces and seating.
- Reorganized Collections: Reorganization of the library’s collections for easier and more enjoyable browsing.
- New Shelving & Display Walls: New shelving and display walls for better flow and enhanced browsing of materials.
- Adult Study Area: Private study carrels for adults to focus and plug in devices.
- Window Seating: Additional seating around the interior atrium to allow in more natural light and connect to the outdoors.
Point Reyes Library
Point Reyes Library Upgrades:
- New Slatwalls & Picture Rails: New slatwalls and picture rails to enhance display areas for exhibits and browsing.
- Teen Area Shelving: New shelving in the teen area to provide a more organized, engaging environment for reading and exploration.
- Updated Seating & Workstations: New chairs, tables, and lounge areas to provide comfortable spaces for reading, studying, and relaxing.
- Outdoor Seating: New outdoor tables, chairs, and benches to provide comfortable spots to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
- Interior & Exterior Paint: A fresh coat of paint on walls, trim, and doors to brighten and refresh interior and exterior spaces.
South Novato Library
