Monster Joy

Tis the season of scary creatures. Even young children can delight in the spooky and ooky. There is safety and power in reading about the strange and unusual. It is a way to experience fear through the comfort of a story. Books are magical that way, the reader can feel intense emotions without any real danger.

Dressing up and acting as a fierce fictional creature is a good time. The joy of pretending to be a monster is a beloved activity across cultures. Letting the inner beast out through imaginative play is fun, creative and gives children a sense of control.

Take ownership of fun and fright and visit your library for some tales of things that go bump in the night. Or stop by to get a craft books to aid in creature creation. Corte Madera library will be making monster masks on Wednesday, October 23rd at 3:30pm. Come on by, if you dare.
