Trees!

Fairfax Garden Project Update: September 6, 2022

Trees were delivered last week and our contractors tenderly nestled them in carefully dug holes. Our garden area includes Valley oaks, Coast Live oaks, Muskogee crepe myrtles and red horse chestnuts. They are currently being heavily watered to help them adjust to their new location. A patron came into the library this week very moved at the number of new trees. Part of the garden project also includes utilizing an arborist to prune existing trees; we’re expecting this work to contribute to the health of our heritage oaks and clear out scrubby brush to create a more fire-safe property.

The arbor, constructed of redwood, has been built. It includes a bench on either side where visitors can sit and read or visit. We envision that this may become a common meet-up location. Plantings of wisteria and trumpet vine will eventually cover the arbor.
