Fairfax Garden Project Update: October 20, 2022

Community support for the library garden project has been astounding and inspiring! Over 300 individuals, businesses and community agencies have donated to Friends of the Fairfax Library and will have engraved pavers as part of our patio. I can’t count the number of times someone has mentioned to me, when I’m outside photographing the garden’s progress, or when I’m inside the library, “I donated a paver, and I can’t wait to see it!” The waiting is almost over, and we will be hosting the Grand Opening Garden Party on Saturday October 29 at 11:00am. The engraved pavers reflect the lives and loves of many community members: names of children, pets and beloved ancestors, quotes from favorite books and poems, and even a secret trap door can be found while perusing the patio.

We wanted our community to have the opportunity to become part of this endeavor, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people who have shown their support. In becoming part of the Library Garden, our community has created a legacy. Their names are written in the stones.

The pavers arrived two weeks ago on pallets.

It was a lot of heavy work just unpacking the pavers.

The construction workers started carefully laying out the pattern of plain and engraved stones, all the while measuring to make sure the patio stayed level.

When all the pavers had been fitted into the patio, they were swept with sand to seal the cracks.
