        Mes de la Herencia de los Nativos Americanos

        La historia del Mes de la Herencia de los Nativos Americanos comenzó "a principios de siglo como un esfuerzo para obtener un día de reconocimiento por las importantes contribuciones que los primeros americanos hicieron al establecimiento y crecimiento de los Estados Unidos". Puede leer más sobre la lucha de décadas para honrar a los nativos americanos en el sitio web del Mes de la Herencia de los Nativos Americanos.

        La celebración se ha proclamado con diferentes variantes pero una favorita es la que es más inclusiva en su nombre de todos los nativos americanos. Así podemos celebrar también a las poblaciones indígenas de América del Sur y de Centroamérica con sus ricas historias, culturas, y tradiciones que son parte íntegra de nuestra vida moderna en los E.E.U.U.

        El informe “El Mundo Indígena 2019, opens a new window” del Grupo de Trabajo Internacional para Asuntos Indígenas revela los países con la mayor cantidad de población indígena de América. México es el estado que cuenta con el mayor número de nativos en todo el hemisferio, alcanzando los 27,5 millones, lo cual representa más del 20% de su población. Guatemala se clasifica en segundo lugar de los países incluidos en este estudio, con una población aborigen de ocho millones, seguida por Bolivia, con 5,5 millones y Estados Unidos de América con 4,3 millones:
