Summer at MCFL: A New Chapter in Year-Round Learning
Summer at the library may look a little different this year. As part of our new Year-Round Learning Model, we’ve moved beyond the traditional summer reading program to offer a more connected, inclusive, and enriching experience for families all year long. This shift reflects our Strategic Plan and our deep commitment to joyful learning, collective impact, and community power in every season.
You’ll still find the library at the heart of summer—just in new and meaningful ways. At our branches, learning programs continue all summer long. We’re supporting early learning through Learning Bus backpack giveaways and sharing stories at Lunch at the Library pop-ups. You’ll also find us out in the community—celebrating at the Marin County Fair and at Pride events at the Farmers Market—all while connecting families to the joy of learning wherever they are.
Teens looking to get involved can take advantage of our Teen Leadership Opportunities, including volunteering at local branches and contributing to The Spire, a magazine created by and for local youth. It’s a great way to build skills, connect with peers, and make your voice heard.
Feeling creative? The Library Card Design Contest is now open! All ages are invited to submit original artwork by July 6. This year’s theme—Community Joy—celebrates everything that makes our libraries and neighborhoods special. Winning entries will become part of a limited-edition library card series launching this fall.
Join us as we reimagine what summer can be and help make learning a celebration that lasts all year long.
