Adults at Home: Sources for Free eAudiobooks and eBooks

In the midst of the COVID-19 shelter-in-place period, many organizations and cultural institutions have made their content freely accessible online. There are so many fabulous resources available through the library and elsewhere online. Where do you even start? The Adults at Home series highlights some of the best resources for adults and seniors on a variety of topics.
 

Here are some of the many resources that provide free access to eBooks and eAudiobooks of interest to adults.

From the Library

  • Overdrive/ Libby: Thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks that you can read or listen to on your computer, tablet, or phone.
  • Hoopla: In addition to providing access to movies and music, you can also find many eBooks and eAudiobooks here.
  • Enki: Over 70,000 titles -independent publishers, classic novels, and bestsellers before they become bestsellers.
  • O’Reilly Learning: Online books and videos on technology, digital media, and business.

  • Project Gutenberg: over 60,000 free eBooks; mostly older literary works, published before 1924.
  • World Digital Library: this project of the U.S. Library of Congress offers many full text books of cultural and historical importance.
  • LibriVox: free public domain audiobooks.
  • ManyBooks:  over 50,000 free eBooks in all genres, including Romance, Mystery, Fantasy, and more. Contains classic and contemporary works.
